CFD analysis – Radiant section tubes in a Hot Oil Furnace
Transheat scope
Study the fluid flow / velocity profile inside the radiant section tubes of a hot oil furnace to assess the possibility of hot spots in tubes (possible due to low velocity of fluid inside the tubes).
Installation in :India.
All design documents reviewed by : PDVSA, Venezuela and ASME AI.
Major design attributes
- Radiant tubes arranged as inverted U tubes connected to headers
- Design with partition in header for the multi pass arrangement.
- Tubes inside fluid is Therminol 66.
- Fluid flow rate = 700 m3/hr at 320oC
- Fluid flow geometry (inverse volume of solid geometry) of header and tube arrangement in ANSYS.
- Simulation is carried out without introducing energy to understand flow through tubes in normal conditions.
- Report in tabular and graph formats with flow profiles at different sections of the tubes.
Boundary conditions of flow and pressure are employed to replicate actual flow physics with mathematical models of solver.
